Suplementação dietética de nitrato no desempenho físico durante a corrida

Introdução. O nitrato presente na beterraba vem sendo estudado devido as suas propriedades ergogênicas. Atualmente, são encontradas na literatura pesquisas que avaliam a suplementação com doses elevadas de suco de beterraba (500 ml) ou então com doses menores de suco, porém com concentração elevada de nitrato, suplementações estas que impõem limitações a inclusão na rotina de atletas e desportistas. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi investigar os efeitos da suplementação de nitrato através de 250 ml de suco de beterraba com concentração normal em nitrato no desempenho físico de praticantes de corrida. Materiais e métodos. Estudo de intervenção realizado com dez indivíduos saudáveis, fisicamente ativos. Foram aplicados dois testes de cinco quilômetros de corrida em esteira. Após o primeiro teste, foi realizada suplementação com 250 ml de suco de beterraba por dia, durante seis dias e, então, reaplicado o teste. Foram avaliados os parâmetros: pressão arterial, frequência cardíaca média e máxima, percepção de esforço, e tempo para a realização do teste. Resultados. A suplementação de nitrato mostrou uma melhora em alguns parâmetros avaliados, porém estes não tiveram significância estatística. Discussão. Apesar dos resultados não significativos, parece haver uma tendência de melhora em parâmetros importantes como a pressão arterial e percepção de esforço, corroborando os efeitos positivos do suco. Conclusão. Os resultados deste estudo levam a conclusão de que a suplementação de nitrato vindos de 250 ml/dia de suco de beterraba é insuficiente para a melhora significativa do desempenho físico na corrida, sendo necessários mais estudos para corroborar o resultado.

 

ABSTRACT 

Dietary nitrate supplementation in running physical performance

Introduction. The nitrate in the beetroot has been studied due to its ergogenic properties. Nowadays, there are surveys that assess the supplementation with high dosages of beetroot juice (500 ml) or with lower dosages of juice, however in a high concentration of nitrate, supplementations that stablish limitations in the inclusion of athletes and sportspeople’s routine. The aim of this research is to investigate the effects of supplementation of nitrate through 250 ml of beetroot juice with normal concentration of nitrate in physical performance of runners. Materials and Methods. This intervention study had a sample of 10 healthy individuals, physically active. Individuals attended the gym on two occasions to perform the treadmill running. The tests were composed primarily by a physical performance test on the treadmill, which was to cover a distance of 5 km in race mode. After this test, participants were available for consumption, for a period of six days, 250 mL/day of beetroot juice. The day after the last juice consumption was held the second test on a treadmill. The parameters evaluated were: blood pressure, maximum and average heart rate, perceived exertion, and time to conclude the race. Results. The supplementation of nitrate showed improvement in some aspects evaluated, however this data did not have statistical significance. Discussion. Although the results do not show significant in this study, there might be a tendency of improvement in important parameters in physical exercise, confirming the positive effects of juice. Conclusion. The results of this study conclude that the supplementation of nitrate through 250 ml per day of beetroot juice is insufficient for significant improvement for physical performance in running, it is necessary further studies to confirm the result.
