Exercí­cio, estresse oxidativo e suplementação com creatina

Resumo

O emprego da creatina como ergogênico por atletas fundamenta-se no fato de que 90% da creatina do corpo são armazenados no músculo esquelético, onde representa, na forma fosforilada, conjuntamente com o ATP, reserva energética fundamental para a contração. Ainda, foi recentemente relatado que a creatina, em sistema de células isoladas, apresenta propriedades antioxidan-tes contra vários agentes oxidativos. Esse efeito, “in vivo”, poderia contribuir para a prevenção da fadiga. Contudo, a despeito de dados da literatura científica sobre exercício indicarem que altas doses via oral de creatina produzem certos benefícios à performance, no Brasil, sua comercialização foi proibida pela Anvisa (Agência Nacional de Vigilância Sanitária). Este fato sinaliza a necessidade ampliar os conhecimentos sobre os efeitos fisiológicos dessa substância. Dessa forma, a proposta desta revisão é discutir os efeitos da suplementação com creatina em conjunto com o exercício, além do seu possível papel protetor contra a formação de espécies reativas de oxigênio.
