Ejercicio, estrés oxidativo y suplementos de creatina

Resumen

El uso de la creatina como ergogénico por parte de los deportistas se basa en que el 90% de la creatina del organismo se almacena en el músculo esquelético, donde representa, en forma fosforilada, junto con el ATP, una reserva energética fundamental para la contracción. Además, recientemente se informó que la creatina, en un sistema celular aislado, tiene propiedades antioxidantes contra varios agentes oxidantes. Este efecto, “in vivo”, podría contribuir a la prevención de la fatiga. Sin embargo, a pesar de los datos de la literatura científica sobre el ejercicio que indican que altas dosis orales de creatina producen ciertos beneficios en el rendimiento, en Brasil, su comercialización fue prohibida por la Anvisa (Agencia Nacional de Vigilancia Sanitaria). Este hecho señala la necesidad de ampliar el conocimiento sobre los efectos fisiológicos de esta sustancia. Por lo tanto, el propósito de esta revisión es discutir los efectos de la suplementación con creatina junto con el ejercicio, además de su posible papel protector contra la formación de especies reactivas de oxígeno.
