Food and nutritional aspects of professional female football players from the municipality of Caçador-SC

Abstract

Football is a sport that involves intermittent exercises, and the intensity of physical effort depends on the athlete's positioning and hydration levels and physical performance status related to nutritional status. The objective of the work was to carry out analyzes of the nutritional, anthropometric and dietary status of professional football players from the Kindermann/Avaí women's team in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. This is a prospective longitudinal study, carried out from January to May 2023. For data analysis, principal component analysis (PCA) and Pearson demonstration were used with a significance level of 0.05. Dietary assessments were carried out (24-hour recall and food frequency questionnaire), anthropometric assessment (weight, height, body composition, % fat), analytical folds and water intake. The sample consisted of 26 athletes. Note that the athletes' water intake was insufficient. The food record declared that the average food consumption was below total energy expenditure (GET) and the FFQ declared low carbohydrate consumption, high lipid consumption and excess protein. Anthropometric data revealed that the highest percentages of fat were among the midfielders, full-backs and defenders. This highlights the importance of studies that evaluate the nutritional status of football players, having a direct relationship with the athletes' performance. After the study, it is possible to set nutritional goals to improve the nutritional status of players, also resulting in increased performance on the field.
