Efectos del consumo o suplementación de omega-3 y ejercicio físico en la prevención y tratamiento de la depresión

Resumen

Introducción: La depresión es uno de los mayores problemas de salud pública en el mundo, afectando aproximadamente al 17% de la población mundial. El tratamiento más importante para la depresión es el uso de medicamentos. Actualmente, hay más de ocho clases de antidepresivos en el mercado, pero el 75% de los pacientes deprimidos no responden. Para estos pacientes se recomienda la asociación de métodos distintos a los antidepresivos, como el ejercicio físico y la suplementación con omega-3. Este estudio tiene como objetivo revisar en la literatura los efectos del consumo y la suplementación de omega-3 y la práctica de ejercicios físicos en la prevención y tratamiento de la depresión. Desarrollo: Los estudios demuestran que existe una mayor relación entre el consumo o la suplementación de omega-3 en el tratamiento de la depresión entre las mujeres, otros no han encontrado beneficios. Se observaron efectos positivos entre el tratamiento de la depresión y la práctica de ejercicios físicos aún sin el uso de antidepresivos. Conclusión: Se concluye que los omega-3 y el ejercicio físico pueden ser complementos importantes del tratamiento farmacológico. Son necesarios estudios que crucen información sobre consumo o suplementación de omega-3, ejercicio físico y antidepresivos en el tratamiento de la depresión.
