Alterations of the corporal composition of professional players of soccer of the Rio Preto Esporte Club
Abstract
Body composition is a very important aspect for professional soccer players’ physical ability level. Several studies show the incompatibility between competitive excellence and high registers of subcutaneous adiposity. This study aimed to evaluate the alterations in body composition during the competitive period. A total of 4 evaluations were made, taking into account the anthropometric variables free fat mass (FFM) and body fat percentage (BFP), by means of Faulkner protocol. The sample for this study was composed of a group of (25) twenty-five professional male soccer players, with average age of 22.6 ± 3.7 years, initial weight of 72.2 ± 7.6 kg and height of 178.7 ± 6.9 cm, evaluated both at the beginning of the preparatory period and during the Paulista Soccer Federation (FPF) championship, series A-2. We could conclude that during the evaluated period the variable BFP presented statistical significant differences between Evaluation I (13.3 ± 2.5) and Evaluation IV (12.3 ± 1.8). This studied has also presented statistical significant differences in FFM between Evaluation I (62.5 ± 5.5) and Evaluation IV (63.8 ± 5.3) (p<0.05).
