Anthropometric analysis in brazilian footballplayers on formative categories
Abstract
The athletes’ physical structure is a key factor to achieve optimum performance. The analysis of anthropometric characteristics of footballplayers in different categories becomes crucial for both the selection and for the prescription and control of the training. The purpose of this article is to analyze anthropometric measures of a group of athletes and compare with the scientific literature. The research was made in the database of a professional footballteam, collecting anthropometric measures of 90 young athletes, in three different categories. The variables analyzed were: height, weight, body fat percentage and body mass index. The results were: the average height was 176 ± 8 cm, weight 68.47 ± 9.04 kg, body fat percentage 7.59± 1.78% and body mass index 22.09 ± 1.78 kg/m². Knowing that high level sports require specific physical profiles, a high percentage of body fat is cosiderer related to low performance. This article found similar results to several other studies in the sports area, both national and international. For more than once we observed values very close to other studies, for all variables in question and in also similar samples. Then, it is possible and interesting to determine a physical standard for the sport, being useful for selection, preparation and monitoring of the athletes. We conclude that the results are consistent with studies of the same subject, national and international, showing a possible pattern of the variables analyzed between the samples.
