Dietary profile of karate athletes of the Brazilian team during the pre-competitive
Abstract
The research aimed to determine the dietary profile of karate athletes of the Brazilian team during the pre-competitive. The occurred during the preparation for the Pan American Games (ODEPA), and were evaluated 19 athletes of both sexes, aged between 18 to 30 years old. The athletes were evaluated for body weight, height, skinfold thickness and answered a food survey of three days to determine the intake of macro and micronutrients. For data analysis descriptive statistics were performed, and the values were expressed as mean, standard deviation, range and standard error of the mean. Male and female karatekas had an intake for carbohydrates, proteins and lipids average of around 53.7 ± 11.3 and 54.1 ± 9.3%; 25.3 ± 10.3 and 23 ± 4.4%; 19.8 ± 10.3 and 21.6 ± 2.7% in that order. Showing that men submitted a profile high in protein, low in carbohydrates and hypolipidemic and women one profile low in carbohydrates, protein and lipids. The athletes of the Brazilian national karate (CBK) that were part of the sample at the time of filling the food recall were conducting an inadequate diet in relation to macro and micronutrients investigated.
