Nutritional condition and physical activity level analysis of the Petrolina-PE university hospital workers
Abstract
Overweight and comorbidities exert a direct influence on health and consequently on the individual's work capacity. This study aim was to evaluate the relationship between the nutritional condition and the physical activity level of Petrolina city University Hospital workers. This is an observational exploratory study with transversal delineation, performed with 214 workers that were (34,30±9,62) years old. The physical activity level was determined by the International Questionnaire Physical Activity (IQPA) and the nutritional condition verified through the Body Mass Index (BMI), Abdominal Circumference (AC) and the Relationship Hip/Waist (RHW). From the 214 evaluated workers, 53% were attendant, 40% administrative functions and 6,5% intern. The BMI media was 26,00±4,77 kg/m2: among men, 36,8% showed overweight and 26,3%, obesity. Among women, 29,9% showed overweight and 20,4% obesity. The AC pointed out visceral fat increase for 23% men and 14,8% women, but, 13,6% women were classified with fat excess. The RHW presented health risk for 63% women and 43% men. The Chi-Square test did not reveal a statistical difference for comparison between physical activity level proportion, by sex (x2=2,705, p=0,608) and performed function (x2=9,66, p=0,267). It was verified excellent level of agreement between BMI and AC, men (r=0,838; p<0,001), women (r=0,854; p<0,001). But, the RHW demonstrated a moderated correlation for men (r=0,452; p<0,050) and weak for women (r=0,276; p<0,050). It was concluded that 64% of the workers presented prevalence of overweight and obesity and 58% were physically unfit, especially administrative workers.
