Abstract

Curcumin, an active compound of curcuma (Curcuma longa L.), has been gaining countless studies on its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Although thousands of years ago, only a few decades ago, extensive research has been carried out and proven the ability to modulate numerous signaling pathways. Clinical trials are conducted to evaluate its efficacy, safety, and pharmacokinetics by controlling markers of muscle damage, which may provide a better recovery for athletes. In this review, it relates its application, through relevant studies that demonstrate in sports practice, its benefits. The curcumin demonstrates a good potential nutritional strategy for DOMS control due to its anti-inflammatory capacity.
