Prevalence of the use of nutritional supplements for practitioners of physical activity, astore customers of supplements
Abstract
Introduction: The introduction of supplements in the media is becoming more intense and faster than the development of regulations and conducting scientific research to prove its real effects, that can determine the safety of its long-term use. The use of supplements by the general public is not quantified, and little information on this subject is published in the literature. Objective: To identify the prevalence on the use of supplements in one of the stores supplements Curitiba / PR and the factors associated with its use. Results: For many, were assessed 24-goers store supplements, all consumed some type of supplement, of which 71% were male and 29% female. The supplements were consumed more protein concentrates (29%). The majority (42%) reported consuming supplements without guidance of an expert, or by prescription or self refer a friend (s), seller of the store and advertisements. There was also a portion of people (13%) being driven by physical education teachers. Discussion: The results point to the ease of use of supplements, and often consumed with no indication of a trained professional. Conclusion: The use of supplements is significant in the group analyzed, showing the need for further research into the use of these products and their beneficial and harmful effects, focusing on aspects of nutrition education for the consumer of supplements to increase the level of information ensuring greater security in their use.
